…I recently joined the Sandplay Therapists of America (STA) organization as Secretary of the Board of Trustees in January. When board members took a scheduled break during our recent retreat in Fresno, CA , we were advised to walk outside the hotel silently, and to savor everything in our path. A number of us, of course, took this suggestion quite seriously.
Beautiful, Interesting Tree Bark

Beautiful, Interesting Tree Bark
So…when a group of us were staring up at interesting things like oranges and lemons hanging ripely from branches overhead; or at the fascinating shape of some particularly interesting tree bark, one of the house doors opened on a house facing the street. Tentatively, a woman peered out of her opened door. She asked us loudly – the people tiptoeing around, staring at cracks in the sidewalk, a silvered leaf – if we needed any help. We must have looked quite odd to her. Someone shared that we were in a training group, and were doing an exercise. The woman laughed but quickly shut her door. Who knows what strange people lurk about during STA meeting breaks! And who knew how refreshing that walk would be. As Yogi Berra once said, “You can see alot by just looking.” I feel an Ode to Bark coming on…
