Spring Sunflowers

Spring Sunflowers

…I’ve been examining the meaning of “spring”, which comes from the old English “wellspring”. It can mean “a usually rapid return to normal shape after removal of stress” or “a small stream of water flowing naturally from the earth”. Both definitions are so appropriate for our family this season. They both define our state of being: resiliency. It is said that wherever the prophet Miriam, Moses’ sister, danced in the desert, after the Exodus – fresh water sprang up as she rejoiced with her dance, her timbrel. This story reminds me that the wellspring of life energy is never dry: I close my eyes, I breathe deeply the scents of lilac from the fragrant bushes near the house from where I grew up, and voila! I am gently buoyed by the current of love and life again. May the season bring you joy and renewal as well.
